Weekly Blog #2

In my third week of IT9/10 we did a project about Hardware. We were assigned to research about a topic with Hardware. It was sort of a review for the test we’re having for tomorrow 😛 Yes I know doesn’t sound fun at all. But on the bright side we’re looking forward to the video Mr. Fernandez  has been talking about has been meaning to show us.

1. Computer Monitor ~ output device that outputs what the computer is doing

2. Window ~ a screen, page that shows a program

3. RAM (Random Access Memory) ~ volatile memory that deletes once the computer turns off (temporarily saves files)

4. Computer hardware ~ physical “organs” of the computer

5. Computer software ~ electronic “organs” of the computer

6. Operating System ~ system that operates the computer

7. Minimize button ~ hides the window

8. Maximize button ~ maximizes the window size

9. Icon ~ a shortcut to open a program

10. Mouse ~ input device that shows a cursor on your computer
monitor used to navigate through the computer

11. BluRay Disc ~ recent optical disc format jointly developed by the Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA), has more memory space than a regular DVD disc -> better quality

12. Keyboard ~ input device that let’s you type into the computer which will be outputted through the computer monitor

13. Hard Drive ~ non – volatile memory storage system

14. Scrolling ~ moving up down in terms of navigating through the computer

15. Printer ~ output device that translates the computer language onto a piece of paper

16. Booting up a computer ~ turning on the computer

17. Mouse pointer ~ cursor that shows where you are navigating throughout the computer

18. Solid State disc ~ storage device that stores persistent data on solid-state flash memory that doesn’t move physically

19. Defrag ~ Defragging, allows your computer to effectively find each file by rearranging and organizing the files which makes your computer function faster and better

20. DOS (Disk Operating System) ~ refers to an operating system software used in most computers that provides the abstraction and management of secondary storage devices and the information on them (helps speed up computers)

21Title bar = the name and the description of the window

22Worm = a virus that gigs tunnels through your computer memory and hard drive

23DVD-ram = are writable that can be erased or rewritten

24Font = the style or size of words or text

25Bios = basic input and output systems

26Clicking the mouse = selecting the file or document

27Double clicking the mouse = opening the file of document

28Right clicking the mouse = selecting the options menu on a document or file

29Dragging the mouse = moving the mouse in order to select something

30Scanner = A scanner is an input device that scans documents such
as photographs and pages of text.

31Menu bar = top menu that has all of the computers files

32Save as = the save function were you are able to select were to save and name of file

33Save = the ability to store your files on your computer

34Clip art = a collection of pictures that can be important to a document

35Cursor = the mouse point that selects files or documents

36CPU = the brain of the computer

37E mail = a standard TCP set of protocols

38Modem = a communication that internal or external to your computer

39Screen saver = a protector that protects your screen form permanent damage

40CMOS = a technology that makes transistors

41Clipboard = a section of rams were your computer stores saved data

41. Dialogue Box ~ a window that asks questions, halts and allows orders from user

42. Default Box ~ an application that opens a file when double licked.

43. Default Settings ~ settings that are changeable

44. MP3 ~ device that helped popularized musics

45. Pulldown Menu  ~ a menu that can be open at any time

46. PC ~ “personalized computer” use on daily basis

47. Linux ~ free for all operating system

48. Bit ~ smallest unit of computer data

49. Byte ~ unit of measurement, used to measure data

50. Cold Boot ~ turning on a computer from off state

51. Warm Boot ~ restarting a computer that is already turned on

52. Format Disc ~ initializes disc to be recognize for the computer

53. Kilobyte ~1, 024 bytes

54. Megabyte ~ 1, 048, 576 bytes

55. Gigabyte ~ 1, 073, 741, 824 bytes

56. Word Processing Program ~ computer application for printable materials

57. Open Source Software ~ freely available to public

58. PCI Express ~ network of serial connections controlled by hub of motherboard

59Word wrap ~  allows each line viewable from reader

60. Virus ~ a small scripts that can affect your computer negatively

61. Active Program ~ a program that will be running when you start the computer

62. Desktop ~ primary interface when computer is booted

63. Application Software ~ application program for software
